Because of China’s take-out and delivery (wai mai 外卖) culture, a huge amount of waste is created from food and food packaging.
I worked with Bhumi, a Shanghai based sustainability startup, with a mission reduce food delivery waste in China, by replacing food and drink packaging with a sustainable alternative that could be composted at home and could help inform people about sustainable practices.
While sustainability was at the core of Bhumi's mission, the user experience of it's products was center to it's success, so we went through multiple rounds of exploration around drinking, eating and transportation to create packages that felt nice and prevented accidental messes.
